THE PHILIPPINE CENTER OF INTERNATIONAL PEN
which has been hosting a yearly national conference since the 1950's is very interested in activities for women playwrights.

With its president, Mr. Alejandro Roces, founder / secretary-general, Frank Sionil Jose, and assistant secretary Isagani Cruz, the Philippine PEN, together with other Asian and Latin American PEN will be hosting the next International PEN in April, 2001.

THE WOMEN PLAYWRIGHTS INTERNATIONAL (WPI)
was organized in 1988 and from then on hosted an international conference every three years (Buffalo, Toronto, Adelaide, Ireland).  It is also involved in this conference because of its desire to expand its membership to include more Asian women playwrights / theater artists.

 

THE JAPAN FOUNDATION MANILA OFFICE
Established in 1972, the Japan Foundation is a special legal entity under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry Foreign Affairs for the purpose of promoting mutual understanding and friendship worldwide.  It is the first specialist organization for international cultural exchange in Japan.  It carries out a broad variety of cultural exchange programs, with exchange or persons as the basic premise, ranging from such academic pursuits as Japanese studies and Japanese-language education to the arts, publication, audio-visual media, sports, and general life culture.  Its activities are financed by operational profits on government endowments, aid from the government including the Official Development Assistance (ODA) budget, and donations from the private sector.

The Foundation carries out various types of programs: Overseas Dispatch of Persons, Invitations to Japan, Support for Japanese Language Education Overseas, Support for Japanese Studies Overseas, Programs  of the Japan Foundation Asia Center, Programs of the Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership, Special Programs for Japan-Europe Exchange, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Publication and Film Exchanges.

Inaugurated in June 1996, the Japan Foundation Manila Office (JFMO) implements all the aforementioned projects.  In addition, the JFMO has its own locally-initiated programs such as film screenings and outreach programs for public lectures, film, performances, exhibits and sports-related activities.  The Manila Office also gives assistance to local educational and art projects like Japanese speech contests, seminar, workshops and performances.
